I like watching Kids shows and thinking about the message we send, the other day I watched Barney and they sang the famous Barney song "special... special... everyone is special, everyone on his or her own way." Not a bad message but not doing much for people seeing each other as similar to themselves. Maybe everyone is special but they should have a disclaimer that no part of being special should allow for thinking that specialty = superior. Albert Einstein was a special guy but was he any more special then Jim Thorpe or john Rockefeller, all of whom are special, along with that guy down the block who has all D&D, star wars and babaloyn 5 hierarchy's memorized. Yes we are all special, but it dosen't mean we should care more about ourselves then other people. If socialists made children shows I wonder what they would look like, what sort of messages would they send? What if someone made a Christians children's show that covered today's social and moral conflicts and taught lessons from the bible about the right things to do, and how to treat all humans in a Christ-like manner.
Yesterday my roommate went bowling and was introduced sarcastically to someone as a communist who hates black people, the first part holding somewhat to the truth while the latter having no basis at all and was said in jest. Yet the obvious African heritage of those bowling in ear shot upon closer lanes made my roommate uncomfortable. Is this a racial joke gone bad? or is it humorous precisely because of the discomfort thrust upon my roommate? I say this because I know he doesn't hate black people and I can laugh at how ludicrous that statement is it's like introducing someone by the trait that you like least about them. If everyone who gets introduced to your family heard, "let me introduce you to the family (insert significant other's name here) there is my pedophile uncle Simon, next ot him my crack dealing cousin Derek, next is my aunt Debbie who wears too much animal tested make-up and teaches her children that god hates fags. chink how much fun that could make thanksgiving.
